At first, Duke thinks Heather is the same as all the other society belles he's met while covering the Lifestyle column for the Houston Star. But she wows him with her spunk that first night and when they meet for lunch the next day, he's hooked. When Heather finds out about Duke's dream of being an investigative reporter, "The Rose" begins leaving her clues for Duke to find - and he gets promoted to an investigative desk. But then he starts wondering about The Rose... who is she? What if she's the woman for him? Meanwhile, Heather falls hard and fast for Duke. Is she destined for heartbreak, like her two friends think? Heather is not your typical cozy mystery. Besides featuring a light, fun tone that really fits the heroine, the debutante angle adds an interesting twist. Duke is a bit of an unlikely hero in the fact that he is a commitment-phobe - something that most women DON'T find attractive! However, Smith wrote him so well that the reader can't help but like him, even when he's at his lowest point. |
