Review – Advent of a Mystery

January 8, 2011 By Michael

Berdie and Hugh Elliot are starting a new chapter of their lives. As the new parish priest in an English village, Hugh is determined that Berdie’s investigative days are over. Both retired from their first careers, they are ready for the quiet life of an English village. But it is not to be.

A Christmas party, with the wrong mixture of guests, sets the stage for a horrific crime, and then a possible miscarriage of justice, with the wrong person arrested for the crime in jail. Berdie is determined, she has to get to the bottom of this mystery, Hugh is just as determined that she needs to stay out of it. Who killed the “lavender lady” Miss Livingstone? A strange visit, with an even stranger man, changes Hugh’s mind, but he is overtly cautious, and does not want Berdie to endanger herself in anyway.

A fast paced story, you simply will not put this book down until you finish it. The actual murderer is fairly easy to figure out, but his reasons for the murder are a surprise. A book of turns, twists, and suspense Advent of a Mystery is a great book! As the new parish priest, you easily spot the faith of Hugh and Berdie, and it is evident in this story, another great plus!
