Review – Days and Hours

I highly recommend this book for those who like legal mysteries ?especially those with a lot of heart.
I’ve often wanted to read one of Susan Meissner’s Rachael Flynn mysteries but haven’t made the time until this week. That’s when I picked up Days & Hours, her latest installment in the Rachael Flynn series.
Days & Hours quickly begins with the disappearance of a baby. As part of her job working as a prosecutor for the County’s Human Services, Rachael Flynn has to decide whether to return the newborn to his mother. While Marcie may not be the best mother in the world, Rachael believes she is innocent. As her investigation continues, Rachael is more and more confused about who could be behind the taking of the infant. When the baby is taken again, Rachael is determined to find the truth. At all costs. As an attorney, I’ve worked too many of these cases. They never fail to break your heart. This book does a masterful job of capturing the reality ? and heartbreak of these cases. The details of the case and investigation are right on and gripping. This book was one I kept thinking about in between reading it. Also, as a mother with a career, I’ve had to deal with the sub-issue that runs through the book. The struggle between being an involved mother and having a career. Especially a career that highlights how needy and important young children are. The author handles this topic with grace and a dose of reality. While this book is the third in a series, the author does a nice job of giving us the information we need to know to catch up without slowing down the action. And I loved the host of supporting characters. From her husband to his sidekick to the rest of the ensemble, they all worked well to add to the richness of the book. I highly recommend this book for those who like legal mysteries ?especially those with a lot of heart. |

Cara Putman
In 2005 she attended a book signing at her local Christian bookstore. The rest, as they say, was history. There she met Colleen Coble. With prompting from her husband, Cara shared her dream with Colleen. Since those infamous words, Cara’s been writing books. Heartsong Presents is publishing a three book series of World War Two romances: Canteen Dreams (October 2007), Sandhill Dreams (May 2008), and Captive Dreams (September 2008). Love Inspired Suspense published her first romantic suspense in May 2008. Now she’s working on the Complete Idiot’s Guide to Business Law (don’t ask!) and the first book in an Ohio World War Two series. Cara is also an attorney, lecturer at a Big Ten university, women’s ministry leader, and all around crazy woman. Crazy about God, her husband and her kids that is. |

Since the time she could read Nancy Drew, CARA PUTMAN has wanted to write mysteries. For years she asked God if this dream was from Him. Her life was full. She graduated with honors from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go Huskers!), moved to the Washington, DC area, married the man of her dreams, worked in the non-profit world, went to George Mason Law School at night while working, and then started having children. While her life was far from empty, the dream wouldn’t die. Then she followed her husband to Indiana. Talk about starting over!
