Lost Lake

Review – Salty Like Blood

January 8, 2011 By Michael

David Conners, M.D., is all set to win partnership in his clinic, when he gets a call from a stranger. His father isn’t doing well. Family comes first in David’s life, so against his wife’s wishes, they head out to the coast to see what is wrong with David’s dad. But while they are there, the unthinkable happens. David’s seven-year-old daughter, Rachel, vanishes.

The local law-enforcement believe that Rachel fell into the water and her body was washed out to see, explaining why no body was every found. But David can’t accept that. He believes that someone abducted his daughter. He remembers hearing a car roaring away seconds before he realized Rachel was missing.

But even David’s wife doesn’t believe Rachel isn’t alive. And David’s all-consuming quest to find Rachel-dead or alive-threatens to destroy everything: his medical practice, his marriage, his integrity, and even his soul.

Salty Like Blood is a fantastic medical read by a fantastic author. As the mother of a seven-year-old girl, the story line was quite painful to read, and I’m afraid I became quite watchful of my daughter, not wanting a repeat of this drama in real life. Still, the storyline was engrossing, and it held my interest.

David Conners acted the way I imagine any loving parent would act when his beloved child disappears, leaving no stone unturned in their search for answers. I hoped David would find Rachel, and the answers he needed, and that it would all be okay. Surprises filled this book, and while I wasn’t disappointed, I’ll admit to being shocked by some of the events. Don’t miss Salty Like Blood. It is sure to keep your interest. The story ending seems to suggest that a sequel to this book is in the works.
