Review – Blood Bayou

January 8, 2011 By Michael

Question: what do you get when you take a heaping helping of talent from suspense authors such as Dee Henderson, Terri Blackstock and Brandilyn Collins, then toss in the Southern flavor of Charles Martin?

Easy…you get the stupendous talent of Karen Young and her new novel, “Blood Bayou”! Over 400 pages in length, Karen’s tale keeps you gripped and guessing until the very last page.

Camille St. John believes in the innocent. She’s built a career with The Truth Project, helping to release convicted men and women who’ve been wrongfully found guilty. Her cause is a noble one, but it’s not without its risks.

Especially when her recent success threatens to become her worst failure. The man she worked so hard to free from a death row sentence is now suspected in a recent homicide…

…back in his home territory of Blood Bayou. Even worse, this case has ties to her ex-husband, lawyer turned minister Jack Vermillion. Can Camille bring herself to return to offer her condolences to the family of this latest victim?

And is this murder victim a second for her client, or is he being set up? What is going on in Blood Bayou, and does it spell trouble for Camille…or even murder?

Tightly woven with multiple story threads, this carefully crafted masterpiece ranks up there with the best of the best. Karen Young writes with passion and depth that reaches into your soul and pulls at your heart.

I was captivated from the first page, and fought for reading time in order to finish this book! While I had my suspicions as to whodunit, I must admit, Karen had me going until the very end. And what an ending!

I’m giving “Blood Bayou” five out of five bookmarks, with a pirogue as a charm (read the book or Google it to know what it is…but don’t be in the bayou without one!). I cannot WAIT for Karen’s next novel, but it doesn’t release until 2010!

You, my friends, need to run out and purchase “Blood Bayou” today. Be warned, parts are graphic and intense…but so true to the human spirit in search of God that it is breathtaking to read.

I’ve only been blogging about books for a little over 18 months. My mom was my book buddy, and when she died I had no one to really talk books with. When my husband started a blog for our church, I thought “I can do that.” So “A Peek At My Bookshelf” was born.

ALTHOUGH I’ve written 35 books, I’m convinced that I didn’t choose a career as a writer; it chose me. After numerous long distance moves necessitated by my husband’s career, I decided to try writing a book out of sheer desperation. …
