Review – The Divine Appointment

January 8, 2011 By Michael

The Supreme Court justice is dying of cancer and the country is gearing up for a huge legal battle. The President, a Christian, wants someone who supports his views, but other organizations across the nation have already decided that who ever he nominates will be unacceptable. They need some one in the seat to keep the classic Roe vs. Wade ruling which is threatening to be overturned.

Jessica Caldwell is pregnant and her married lover wants her to get an abortion. When she refuses, she is found dead when she doesn’t report to work. Christian attorneys, Eli Faulkner and Jill Baker discover that a Senator is the father of the child. Is he also the murderer? Discovering the truth puts Eli and Jill in the line of fire and they may not survive.

THE DIVINE APPOINTMENT is the first book I’ve read by Jerome Teel. He never goes fully in any characters point of view; instead he uses a narrative voice which keeps the reader from becoming fully engaged in the story. The story is written with several main characters and story lines going at the same time, and it is confusing at first. I even wondered what they all had to do with each other. The setting varied from Washington D.C. to Nashville, Tennessee.

Once I got into the story, I wanted to see how all the different plots played out together, and to discover who the killer actually was. There are plenty of red herrings in the book so I was kept guessing. The faith message is understated. There is a lot of legal information in the book, making this political murder mystery an ideal book for those who love legal thrillers.
