Jane M. Choate Interview

February 26, 2018 By The Suspense Zone

Q: Let me start with asking you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
A. Let’s just say that I’m boring. My husband, children, and grandchildren repeatedly tell me that. In my mind, I’m not boring. There, I am one of my characters-a Special Ops soldier, a reporter, a district attorney, etc.

Q: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
A. I realized that I wanted to write stories when I was in elementary school where I would entertain friends with stories about them, always with a happy ending.

Q: Could you give us the highlights of your professional writing career including how you got your first writing break?
A. My first real writing break occurred in 1988 when I discovered a chapter of RWA (Romance Writers of America). Though I had published short stories and articles, I had never sold a book and I desperately wanted to. I joined RWA at the same time. That set me in the right direction. I have sold 36 books (I hope to sell more) and over 500 short stories and articles to such publications as Chicken Soup for the Soul, Writer, Writer’s Market, Luxury Lifestyles, and others.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release High Risk Investigation
A: High Risk Investigation starts with a question: what happens when a take-charge ex-Army Ranger is assigned to protect an independent reporter who doesn’t want a bodyguard?

Q: Where did you get your inspiration for High Risk Investigation?
A: My inspiration came from my fascination with the brave men and women who serve our country, especially those in the Special Ops community.

Q: What is the main thing you hope readers remember from this story?
A: I hope this story helps readers to remember that the Lord is there for them, when they feel all is lost, when they feel that they should just give up, when they feel that life is too harsh to handle.

Q: What inspires you to write?
A. I write because I have to. The voices in my head demand to be heard.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I am currently working on the 5th book of the S&J Security/Protection series. HRI is the 4th book in the series. Other books include Keeping Watch, The Littlest Witness, and Shattered Secrets.

Q: When you’re not writing what do you like to do?
A. When I am not writing, I am playing with grandchildren, going to garage sales, and serving in our church.
