Meghan Carver Interview

September 3, 2018 By The Suspense Zone

Q: How long have you been writing and what other careers or jobs have you had?
A. I’ve loved writing since sixth grade, but I’ve only been serious about publication for about seven years. My first book released in February of 2016. During my high school and college years, I have had a paper route, scooped ice cream at Baskin Robbins, ran a cash register at Target, cut fabric at Jo-Ann Fabrics, designed brochures for the Career Development & Placement office at my college, and delivered interoffice mail for a large corporation. During law school, I worked for a partnership of attorneys who practiced immigration and naturalization law and then practiced with them for a bit between graduation and the birth of my first child.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release AMISH COUNTRY AMNESIA?
A: From the back cover: His past is a mystery to everyone…except for the men trying to kill him. When a snowmobile accident leaves a man injured and with no memory, Amish widow Sarah Burkholder and her young daughter rescue him. Even as Sarah’s feelings for him grow, they discover unknown assailants are after him—and Sarah and her little girl for helping him. But if he can remember who he is, he might just save all their lives.

Q: Where did you get your inspiration for this story?
A: I have always been fascinated with amnesia and the idea of erasing all memories, especially the bad ones. I also love Amish stories, so putting both ideas together was exciting.

Q: What is the main thing you hope readers remember from this story?
A: When we don’t know who we are or what we’re doing, the Lord knows us, even to the number of hairs on our heads. Sometimes, our faith just needs a little encouragement, and we need to remember that the Lord is there, through His Word and through prayer.

Q: How do you choose your settings for your books?
A. I follow that old advice to write what you know. Also, Indiana has the third largest Amish population. I love that Amish country is so close to where I live.

Q: Do you base your characters on people you know or are they totally made up?
A: My characters are completely made up, although I do like to write lawyers. ? Sometimes, though, I’ll end up choosing the name of someone I know because I like that name, and then I worry that that person might read my book and think I fashioned that character after him or her even though I didn’t.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I’m just now turning in the full manuscript for another Love Inspired Suspense with Amish characters. It’s scheduled for release next July. This is the story of the heroine’s friend from Amish Country Amnesia. Her brother has withdrawn from the Amish community, and as she seeks to find out why, he leaves her an encoded message that she must decipher in order to help him. Along the way, she runs into trouble, and a handsome ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agent comes to her rescue.

Q: If money were no object what vacation would you like to take and why?
A. An around-the-world cruise! I would see various parts of the world but without the packing and unpacking.

Q: What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
A. Um…. I’m drawing a blank on this one.

Q: What is the hardest thing you have ever done?
A. The hardest mental thing I’ve ever done is sit for a six-hour tax law exam in law school. I felt like I’d been through the wringer when I was done, but I managed to squeak through it with a B. The hardest physical thing I’ve ever done is walk beans when I was about ten. It was five days in a row of hour after hour after hour of walking up and down the rows of soybeans cutting down the weeds. My mom grew up on a farm and wanted my brother and me to have a few farm-style “experiences.”
