Mary L. Ball Interview

May 14, 2018 By The Suspense Zone

Q: How long have you been writing and what other careers or jobs have you had?
A. I’ve been writing since 2007. When my oldest grandson was born, I quit my administration position to stay at home and watched him while my daughter worked. Ten years later another grandson was born. I’ve continued to keep my grandson around his school schedule, and write novels and articles.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release Sunny’s Dream?
A: Sunny Kast spends her week fighting cyber-crime, and dreaming of her prince charming.

When a man walks into Celestial Investigations, and introduces himself as Trouble, she’s sure he’s not her prince, and positive that he lives up to his name.

After Max Trouble finds an important document, his life gets complicated with the know-it-all P.I. hired to track down its owner.

Sunny and Max’s relationship grows. She’s optimistic that he may be her prince charming, but after her car is sabotaged, and she’s almost killed Max’s chauvinist ideas of a female investigator surface.

Will she see God’s perfect plan, or a not-so-perfect relationship?

“Sunny’s Dream,” Celestial Investigation, book one. A Christian romantic suspense based on three sisters. Their P.I. skills come in handy in the quaint town of Mercy, North Carolina, a place where romance and mystery unite.

Q: Where did you get your inspiration for this story?
A: I was driving home one day. The idea of three sisters, Sunny, Luna and Starr came to mind. Before I’d gotten home, I had mentally mapped out a series and the basic plot of book 1.

Q: What is the main thing you hope readers remember from this story?
A: The idea that God has a plan for everyone, even if we’re not perfect.

Q: How do you choose your settings for your books?
A. I live in a small town. The simpler life and less populated areas are what make me who I am. It’s only natural that all of my books highlight those kinds of regions.

Q: Do you base your characters on people you know or are they totally made up?
A: My characters and always fictional. Because I live in a small area, I’m careful not to mimic any of my heroes or heroines after anyone I know. However, I do use some of my husband’s characteristics such as, opening the door for his lady, pulling out her chair, and using endearments.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I’d like that very much. I’m working on Luna’s Treasure, book 2 of Celestial Investigation series, scheduled for release sometime this summer.

Q: If money were no object what vacation would you like to take and why?
A. I wouldn’t seek out an exotic locale. I’d go to Hawaii or some other tropical place, and relax on a quiet island.

Q: What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
A. I tripped in church while going to the podium to sing. Thank goodness, I’d chosen a long dress to wear that day.

Q: What is the hardest thing you have ever done?
A. Bury my oldest daughter.
