Jaime Jo Wright Interview

December 9, 2019 By The Suspense Zone

Q: How long have you been writing and what other careers or jobs have you had?
A. I have been writing since I was thirteen. Through all those years, I’ve been everything from a dispatcher for chimney sweeps, an admin for a blacksmith, a salesperson of cell phones, and currently am a Director of HR & Organizational Development! You can definitely say the day job has added some pizazz to my novel writing.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release Echoes Among the Stones?
A: Sure! It’s a split-time mystery set in both 1946 post WWII and present day. It’s the story of a cold case, a crime scene re-staged in a dollhouse, a grieving sister and a grieving granddaughter. And, let’s throw in some washed-up unmarked graves for good measure . . .

Q: Where did you get your inspiration for this story?
A: My publicist sent me a pod cast discussing women in early forensics and the dollhouse dioramas used to teach observation and theory. From there, the story blossomed and began to adopt elements of history I’d learned from my gramma.

Q: What is the main thing you hope readers remember from this story?
A: That it is okay and necessary to walk through grief. Grief isn’t a stage that must be shooed away. It’s a part of the healing process.

Q: How do you choose your settings for your books?
A. I tend to stick with places I’m familiar with. So many places have eerie elements, so choosing them is almost akin to sticking my hand in a full bucket and just seeing what I draw out.

Q: Do you base your characters on people you know or are they totally made up?
A: My characters may have elements of people I know, but I prefer to make them up and not model them specifically after an individual.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I’m currently working on edits on my next novel due out in September of 2020, titled The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus.

Q: If money were no object what vacation would you like to take and why?
A. I’d probably head to New Zealand to visit my writing sister and spend time learning her country.

Q: What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
A. Gone six weeks without coffee. Silliest thing I’ve ever done.

Q: What is the hardest thing you have ever done?
A. Gone six weeks without coffee. LOL
