Jennifer Pierce Interview

September 10, 2018 By The Suspense Zone

Q: Let me start with asking you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
A. I live in Arkansas with my husband and two children. I’m a paralegal by day and a referee by night. I’m a bookdragon (bookworm is an understatement).

Q: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
A. I didn’t really realize I wanted to be a writer until the last couple of years. My father died in 2014 and I used books as my therapy. I read 135 books in 2014. I was reading a book in 2015 and thought “I can do this.” And I did.

Q: Could you give us the highlights of your professional writing career including how you got your first writing break?
A. My professional writing career didn’t begin until 2017 actually. I started writing Hidden Danger in 2015 and came across a contest Harlequin was doing for their Love Inspired lines. I didn’t make it past the first round of the contest but I did finish the novel. I submitted it through regular channels and got a form rejection. Fast forward a year and I sold it doing #PitMad on Twitter.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release Hidden Danger?
A: All Maggie Jones wants to do is sell her late father’s property and get out of Whitehaven, Texas as fast as possible—before she runs into the one man she’s spent the past six years avoiding. Someone has other plans for her, though. Sinister plans. And when a seemingly harmless act of vandalism turns into a series of menacing threats, she has no choice but to turn to last person on earth she wants to see for help.

Sheriff Cody Smith never expected to see Maggie again, especially after he’d broken her heart all those years ago. Maybe this is the second chance he’s always wanted. But when he realizes Maggie’s in grave danger, he intends to keep her safe at all costs. With lines from an old nursery rhyme as their only clue, he needs to find out who’s behind this deadly game before the rhyme ends and Maggie’s time runs out. Can he protect her, catch the bad guy, and make amends for past wrongs? Or will old wounds get in the way?

Q: Where did you get your inspiration for Hidden Danger?
A: I had a scene in my head where a woman comes home and runs into an old flame. It developed from there.

Q: What is the main thing you hope readers remember from this story?
A: Forgiveness. Whether it’s something small someone has done to you or a large event.

Q: What inspires you to write?
A. The stories want to be told. I want to use all the ideas in my head to spread the love of God.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I’m working on finalizing edits for my second novel, Expecting Danger, which releases in December. When I’m not working on those, I’m working on the third in the Small-Guardians series.

Q: When you’re not writing what do you like to do?
A. Spending time with my family, reading, and watching #LivePD.
