Jessica R. Patch Interview

September 2, 2019 By The Suspense Zone

Q: Let me start with asking you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
A. I live in the South and love the heat. Not a fan of the cold. I’ve been married 24 years and have two children. I love laying by/in the pool reading and drinking copious amounts of LaCroix coconut water or if it’s rainy searching for something binge-worthy on Netflix. I also enjoying rummaging through thrift stores!

Q: As a child or teenager, did you ever dream of being an author?
A. I did not. I had a big imagination and loved a good story and even wrote a few, but I wanted to be a missionary. And I feel like in a way—through the inspirational books I write—I am!

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release Recovered Secrets?
A. Recovered Secrets is an amnesia story. My heroine has no idea who she is but when trouble comes calling, her muscle memory kicks in and she realizes she has skills only someone really bad might have, but that doesn’t scare off the hero! A former SEAL who isn’t afraid of a woman who could give him a run for his money if it came to that, he is all about helping her figure out her past so they can look toward a future. If they don’t die first. 😉

Q: Where did the idea for this story come from?
A. Honestly, it came from a movie I loved more than two decades ago and I always wanted to write about a heroine like that, but I won’t tell the movie or it will give away a few fun reveals.

Q: Tell us a little about your main character and how you developed him/her.
A. She’s an amnesiac who now volunteers as the search-and-rescue where the hero works as the Director. I figured out who she was and what her skill set was, who she was even prior to that and this strong but vulnerable woman took shape!

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I’m actually on a writing break at the moment and not working on anything! But this fall I’ll get back to some projects that need my attention, one being another Honeyhaven story in a contemporary romance series.

Q: Where do you escape for some quiet time?
A. My house is pretty quiet already with practically grown kids—one works full-time. So I escape to my sunroom or take a walk on the property down by the pond and just sit on the dock. The early morning before the sun rises is my favorite time to just listen to the quiet.

Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t writing?
A. Probably volunteering more at charities and not beating my head against walls so often. Ha!

Q: What one thing have you always wanted to do but couldn’t afford to do?
A. Take 3 months off with my husband and go on a road trip or a 30 day Mediterranean cruise!

Q: I’m an avid gardener and have to ask what kind of flower you would be and why?
A. Good question. Probably a tulip. They just seem cheery and fun. And they’re my favorite flower.
