Review – The Tattoed Rats

Fast-forward to 2012 and the fantasy world of The Tattooed Rats, a group of Christian teens threatened with imprisonment or death if they discuss their faith. Meet high schooler Patrick “Patch” Johnson and his twelve friends, confused by parent’s betrayal. When The World Peace Alliance (WPA) captures Patch after his escape from their hiding place and sends him to The New Peace Clinic for reprogramming, Dr. Max and the Button Lady use drugs to brainwash him. Here Patch meets secret members of the Tattooed Rats and learns things are not what they seem. Enemies are friends, and friends are enemies. And that’s not mentioning the slimy, slithering demons that make Patch question his sanity or the unseen angels who guard him.

Brief character sketches of the main characters are provided in the prologue. The chapters are short, often one page, and mostly dialogue. Additional narration for back-story would have made a more enjoyable read. Yet, the book is compelling and kept me reading until the end. Teens and pre-teens will enjoy this quick, easy read.
