Cynthia Hickey Interview

March 12, 2018 By The Suspense Zone

Q: Let me start with asking you to tell us a little bit about yourself.

A:  I’m a full time writer and also own a small press. When I’m not writing, I’m reading or oil painting. My latest addiction! I’m decorating my home with things I’ve painted and giving some away to friends. I’m a NYT, ECPA, Amazon best-selling author who can’t imagine doing anything else to earn a buck.

Q: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

A:  Junior High School. I’ve been making up stories since I learned to read at the age of five, but it wasn’t until then that I started putting words to paper. I wish I had those old stories to smile at.

Q: Could you give us the highlights of your professional writing career including how you got your first writing break?

A:  A friend dared me to write a cozy mystery. I didn’t know what one was. I looked it up, wrote it, won first place in a contest, got an agent, then a contract, and I was hooked. I’m a hybrid now writing novellas for a big house and mysteries and suspense under my own press. I love my job!

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release MURDER LIVE?

A: Sheriff Sharlene Camenetti loves her job and her town. The last thing she wants is a serial killer who films the murder and posts it live on his victim’s social media. When handsome FBI agent Everis Hayes shows up to help her catch the man he’s been chasing for years, things heat up…between them and the hunt for a sadistic killer.

Q: Where did you get your inspiration for MURDER LIVE?

A:When Facebook Live started, and I saw how popular it was growing, I asked myself that infamous “what if”?. What if a killer filmed his murders and posted it on FB Live for the victim’s families to get a front row seat.

Q: What is the main thing you hope readers remember from this story?

A: Everyone has a purpose. Even a woman sheriff who feels she’s a small duck in a big pond.

Q: What inspires you to write?

A:  The sheer love of words.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?

A:  I’m working on the next book in the Highland Springs series, SAY BYE TO MOMMY, and another book in my Paparazzi cozy mystery series.

Q: When you’re not writing what do you like to do?

A:  Read, play games, crochet…my favorite is oil painting. I only wish it didn’t take so long for the paint to dry before I could do the next layer.
