Kimberly Rose Johnson Interview

May 20, 2019 By The Suspense Zone

Q: How did you get your start writing fiction and what genre do you predominantly write in?
A. I started writing fiction 13 years ago. I was a stay at home mom who taught piano lessons, I read several hours a day while my kids were in school. One day I said “I could do this.” Time passed and then a story began to build in my head. I started writing it out on my laptop and the rest is history.

Q: What does your writing space look like?
A: I have a very messy desk with an ergonomic chair that I use which is positioned in one section of our family room. I also use two separate recliners. My back and hips bother me from sitting so much, so I move around a lot.

Q: What part of a writing career do you find most difficult?
A. Juggling all the aspects of the job. There is way more to a career in writing than writing.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release The Sleuth’s Dilemma?
A: Sure! The Sleuth’s Dilemma is a romantic mystery and is the second book in my Librarian Sleuth series. It’s inspired by the Nancy Drew mystery books but with my own spin on it. Here is the back cover description.
Anna loves her job as a high school English teacher until everything goes sideways. The one bright spot in her life is Titus Gains, the school counselor, who is there for her at every turn.

Titus’ boss complicates his ordered world when she tasks him with running a meeting that changes everything. How had he not noticed Anna earlier? Someone is out to destroy her, and he can’t let that happen.

As the head of the English department, part of Luke Harms’ job is to make sure everything runs smoothly. Things went haywire when Anna was put in charge of the big writing contest. Entries are missing, Anna appears to be in danger, and her job is on the line. Luke is investigating and wants to make things right for this woman he’s starting to care about.

Can a trio of school officials along with Nancy Daley, the town sleuth, stop the saboteur before it’s too late? And will Anna choose the right man, or lose them both?

Q: What did you enjoy most about writing this book? Least?
A: This book was seriously fun to write once the creative juices started flowing. I loved the characters and the relationships that were formed. My least favorite part was probably just getting started everyday. That’s generally my biggest daily challenge—getting my mind wrapped around the story first thing in the morning.

Q: What is the main theme or spiritual message of this book?
A: A theme of trust is woven organically throughout the story.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I’m currently writing the third book in the series. This story focuses on Nancy’s library assistant.

Q: If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be?
A. JoAnna Gains because I admire her style and faith and Candace Cameron Bure for the same reasons. Plus they both write!

Q: Do you have a favorite hobby?
A. Aside from being an avid reader, I love to walk. I’ve had many different hobbies throughout my adulthood, but that is the one I enjoy most consistently.

Q: What is the most rewarding thing you have ever done?
A. Raise my boys.
