Janice Cantore Interview

August 1, 2021 By The Suspense Zone

Q: What is the craziest, most risk-taking thing you’ve ever done?
A: Moving to Hawaii wasn’t crazy, but it was risky—the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. It was a big change, a big expense, and I couldn’t be certain that I would like it. As it turns out, I love it here, and am glad that I made the move.

Q: Tell me two things about yourself that would surprise your readers.

A: For a time, after college, I worked in a sports medicine clinic, taping ankles for high school football players.
1. I love to swim in the ocean. The other day, I actually swam looking for a shark, and I found one.
2. I love golf and currently have a 17 handicap.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release (Breach of Honor) and where the idea for this story came from?
A: Like most of my books, the idea for Breach of Honor started with asking “what if” questions. I have good friends involved with prison ministry. Before Covid, they could go into prisons and give good Christian counsel to prisoners who wanted to talk to them. So, I started asking, what if someone who killed a person in self-defense, yet was convicted anyway, asked to speak to a chaplain? What if he believed he/she was wrongfully convicted?

In the midst of my planning, a local woman, a member of my church, was murdered by her estranged husband. My story went off in a whole new direction. The issue of domestic violence is real and way too pervasive. Many women stay in abusive relationships hoping the abuser will change, but they never do. (I’m not saying they can’t, but in my experience, abusers don’t change unless they are forced to.)

So, my main character became an abused woman: a woman who can’t admit to herself that she is a victim, and it nearly costs her her life.

As with all my books, there is hope and redemption, and I hope a thrill ride to the end of the book.
