Review – Bayou Justice

January 8, 2011 By Michael

Coco LeBlanc has a lot on her plate.

Her sister and grandmother refuse to listen to her about the evils of practicing voodoo, which Coco gave up when she became a Christian. It’s up to Coco to turn them to God, but lately talking to them is a lot like talking to a brick wall.

Her grant funding for the conservation work she does with alligators in the bayou is up and if she doesn’t get the next grant, how will she support her family?

One of the Trahans, a powerful local family, threatens her family with eviction, claiming that Coco’s late grandfather gambled away the family home long ago. Coco makes a call to ex-boyfriend Luc Trahan without thinking about the consequences to her heart.

Then Coco finds a body in the clutches of one of her alligators, and finds herself under suspicion of the murder. Can she trust Luc, who broke her heart two years ago, to help her find the real murderer?

Caroll has hit one out of the park with her debut novel.

Best thing about this book: the characters. They are well-rounded, conflict-filled, and real. And Caroll doesn’t hold anything back – each character takes the reader along for an emotional journey.

Second best thing about this book: the unusual setting. The bayou and southern feel created by Caroll draw the reader into the story, while her carefully crafted descriptions don’t overwhelm with bulky paragraphs of text.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
