Review – Deliver Us From Evil

January 8, 2011 By Michael

Deliver Us From Evil is a tale of betrayal, hope, pain, longing, and redemption ripped straight from today’s headlines. Through this romantic suspense, the very real problem of child trafficking is brought to light.

Brannon Callahan, a search and rescue pilot in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park sets out on what she thinks is a routine rescue when a plane goes down in a blizzard. But in that plane is U.S. Marshal Roark Holland and the donor heart he’s transporting to a dying government witness with crucial information to the largest child trafficking ring right in her backyard.

As if going down in a helicopter in a blizzard isn’t bad enough, shots are fired upon Brannon, Roark, and the medic responsible for keeping the heart viable. Battling the elements and outside combatants, Brannon’s faith is tested as her attraction to Roark increases.

Unknown to them, not far away, two children are plotting their escape from the child trafficking ring that has robbed them of their innocence, destroyed their dreams of an American education, but has not squashed not their will to fight and live. But will they make it before the powerful forces working against silence them all? And will those responsible for this evil be brought to justice?

Deliver Us from Evil takes a tough subject and handles it delicately. While the child trafficking ring is the motivation for the plot, most of the story revolves around Roark and Brannon’s struggle of survival against the elements and hostile combatants trying to silence them. When given a glimpse into the lives of the children within the trafficking ring, it is handled tastefully, though the pain and degradation these girls suffer come through loud and clear. Caroll is great at using the setting as a character and actually making you feel the chill from the storm. For romantic suspense lovers, this is a great read with just the right amount of love and danger, though with the child trafficking set up and plot, I was looking for more of a suspenseful read.
