Sharee Stover Interview

November 16, 2020 By The Suspense Zone

Q: Let me start with asking you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
A. My husband swept me off my feet and whisked me from my home state of Colorado to the wilds of Nebraska. We have three children and a German Shepherd who runs the house and keeps us in shape with his daily walk/run requirement.

Q: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
A. When I was a kid my best friend had a typewriter (I’m telling my age there) and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. So maybe writing was embedded deeper in me than I ever knew? It wasn’t until after the birth of my youngest that I caved to my hidden dream of writing which quickly became an addiction.

Q: What do you write and why this genre?
A. Christian romantic suspense is my genre for many reasons. First, I love reading suspense books, and when combined with a sigh-worthy happily-ever-after ending, it just doesn’t get better than that. I specifically write Christian fiction because I believe in sharing the message of Christ through stories that compel readers and give them hope.

Q: Do you base your characters on people you know or are they totally made up?
A:  Most of the time my characters are figments of my imagination, however, they often will take on traits of people I know or characters from television shows/movies.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release GRAVE CHRISTMAS SECRETS?
A: Grave Christmas Secrets is my all-time favorite story (so far) and I spent more time researching it than any other before, including several interviews with a real-life forensic anthropologist. It’s the second book in the ATF Heroes series and has cameo appearances by characters from the first book, Untraceable Evidence. No spoilers here!

Discovering buried evidence makes her a target. At a prehistoric site, forensic anthropologist Taya McGill uncovers a recently buried body days before Christmas—and finds herself in a killer’s sights. Now on the run with undercover ATF agent Keegan Stryker, she must rely on him to guard her as they figure out why someone would kill to keep this murder unsolved. But can they unearth the truth before someone silences them both for good?

Q: Where did the idea for this story come from?
A. Our family took a trip to Royal, Nebraska’s Ashfall Fossil Beds and while we were there looking at dinosaur fossils, the story idea came to me. What if a body was found here?

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I’m always working on several stories at the same time. It’s just how my mind functions or malfunctions, depending on how you look at it. So, I’m in the process of editing my next Love Inspired Suspense release, Cold Case Trail coming to you May 2021. This book features Trey Jackson, the brother of my hero, Slade Jackson from Silent Night Suspect. I’m super excited for Cold Case Trail to hit the shelves. I’m also plotting a new series (yes, I’m a hard-core plotter though I tried for years to believe I was a pantser) and I’m writing a new standalone romantic suspense.

Q: Tell me three things about yourself that would surprise your readers.
A. I’m a two-time cornea transplant patient. No, they didn’t mess up the first time. LOL. Both my right and left corneas are transplants but the surgeries were done a year apart. My favorite animal is a baby harp seal, those little white fuzzy guys. Sooooo cute! I collect pretty much every baby harp seal related thing I can find. And I absolutely LOVE office supplies. Pens, pencils, paper, folders… I am perfectly content hanging out in an office supply store for hours.

Q: Milk or dark chocolate? Coffee or tea?
A. Dark chocolate is my FAVE! And although I like both coffee and tea, my morning cup of coffee is non-negotiable.

Q: Favorite TV show or shows?
A.I love all crime shows but my go to shows are Friends and the Golden Girls.
