D.L. Wood Interview

December 10, 2018 By The Suspense Zone

Q: How long have you been writing and what other careers or jobs have you had?
A. I’ve been seriously writing for about six years. Although, I do have on my bookshelf a book I wrote in the fifth grade that we bound in class as part of a project, so if you go by that, I’ve been writing for thirty-eight years. I’m also an attorney, but I retired from the practice of law when my twin girls were two in order to be a stay at home mom. Presently, I also serve as a worship leader in my home church.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release UNINTENDED WITNESS?
A: Unintended Witness is the second book in the Unintended Series of suspense novels. Like book one, Unintended Witness is packed with suspense and laced with faith and romance. It picks up with protagonist Chloe McConnaughey as she attempts to reconcile with the father that abandoned her twenty five years ago, only to be drawn into a thrilling murder investigation that threatens the only family she has left.

Q: Where did you get your inspiration for this story?
A: I was looking for the right story line to continue the Unintended Series and happened to notice the significant amount of construction going on in Franklin, Tennessee, during one of my visits. My mind started rolling on that and the story just grew from there.

Q: What is the main thing you hope readers remember from this story?
A: The driving theme in the story is forgiveness, as Chloe wrestles with forgiving her estranged father.

Q: How do you choose your settings for your books?
A. I pick places I would want to go. The setting for Unintended Witness is Franklin, Tennessee, my hometown and one of my favorite places on earth. It is truly one of the most charming places you can visit.

Q: Do you base your characters on people you know or are they totally made up?
A: My characters are completely made up, though I often use fictional television or movie personalities as inspiration.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. Right now I am working on my next suspense novel, which will be a stand alone book outside of the Unintended Series.

Q: If money were no object what vacation would you like to take and why?
A. New Zealand. It just seems like such a beautiful and unique place. I’m also a bit of a Lord of the Rings fan, so that doesn’t hurt.

Q: What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
A. For our church’s fall festival last year, our worship team dressed up as the trolls from a recent popular children’s movie and had to lip sync the title song. Not surprisingly, I do not look good in a short, upswept, blue wig.

Q: What is the hardest thing you have ever done?
A. Raise twin teenage girls. Hands down. No question.
