Terri Reed Interview

March 4, 2019 By The Suspense Zone

Q: Let me start with asking you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
A. Most days I’m an author, sitting at my computer or dictating into my phone. But two days a week I’m a dog handler. LOL I have a beautiful Australian Shepherd that keeps me busy with agility training and lots of walks. When my husband and I became empty nesters, we decided to get a dog which seems to be a trend among others our age.

Q: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
A. I don’t think there was a time when I didn’t want to be a writer. Telling stories to myself was a way to keep myself occupied whenever I didn’t have a book nearby. My mother saved the stories I had written in grammar school. Even then I was writing romantic suspense.

Q: Do you find certain themes reoccurring in your books? If so, what are they and why? If not, what is the theme in your current release?
A. I do find themes playing out again and again in my stories. Usually the themes are forgiveness (of others and oneself), trusting God, realizing that God is in control even when we can’t see it. The why these reoccur is because they are themes I struggle with. And in my current release, Buried Mountain Secrets, both the hero and heroine struggle with these issues.
There’s a saying that writing is cheap therapy.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release Buried Mountain Secrets?
A: Set in the fictional town of Bristle Township, Colorado, Maya Gallo’s younger brother goes missing on a hike while searching for buried treasure. Concerned for him, Maya goes after him but is attacked by a masked man. Sheriff Deputy Alex Trevino comes to her rescue. It soon becomes apparent that Maya and her brother are in danger and it’s up to Alex to keep them safe.

Q: Where did the idea for this story come from?
A. I read an article about an eccentric millionaire who buried treasure somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. I used that premises as a starting off point to develop Buried Mountain Secrets.

Q: Who/what has influenced your writing career the most?
A. Finding the writer’s organization Romance Writers of America has been the biggest reason I have a career as an author. Through RWA I have learned and honed my craft, networked with editors, agents and other authors. But the biggest blessing was meeting my close writing friends who have offered encouragement, support and lots of laughter over the years.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I’m currently working on the second books set in the same fictional town of Bristle Township, Colorado. Deputy Chase Fredrick must protect a witness in hiding from the murderer bent on keeping her silent.

Q: If you were a dessert, what would it be and why?
A. I’d be lemon shortbread with real raspberry icing. Because there’s a bit of tart and sweet in this confection and I think I’m the same way.

Q: Is there something about you most people wouldn’t know?
A. I’m not a huge fan of chocolate. I eat around the chocolate chips in cookies. Drives my hubby nuts. LOL

Q: Is there a place you have always wanted to visit? A vacation spot, historical monument, overseas, etc?
A. I’ve traveled a fair amount but one of the places I want to see soon is the Scottish Highlands. There’s something so wild about the area that calls to my heart.
