Terri Reed Interview

April 5, 2021 By The Suspense Zone

Q: Let me start with asking you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
A. Let’s see, I’m from a small mountain town in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California but I couldn’t wait to escape to the ‘city’. I went to college in Sacramento then moved to New York City and then Chicago before finally landing in Portland Oregon. I have two adult children. My husband and I are empty nesters and did what many empty nesters do and got a puppy. LOL My dog is now five years old and keeps us young and active. When not writing, I’m doing agility with my dog.

Q: As a child or teenager, did you ever dream of being an author?
A. I did! I remember in my seventh-grade English class we had a section on creative writing and I was hooked. I’d always told myself stories as a way to occupy myself but when I realized I could actually write a story from beginning to end, I decided then I wanted to purse writing as a career. It took me until I was forty to publish my first novel.

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release Alaskan Rescue?
A. This story is the first book in a new continuity series from Love Inspired Suspense. Set in the great state of Alaska the eight stories are connected by an overarching mystery. My book features Alaskan state trooper Hunter McCord and his canine partner Juneau who rescues Alaskan Husky breeder, Ariel Potter from the side of a cliff. Someone wants her dead and it’s up to Hunter and Juneau to protect the pretty lady and bring down the villain before it’s too late.

Q: Where did the idea for this story come from?
A. With Love Inspired continuities, the story is generated by the editorial department. The authors take the information and massage it into a complete story.

Q: Tell us a little about your main character and how you developed him/her.
A. Ariel Potter runs an Alaskan Husky breeding program as well as trains dogs for sled dog racing. She was a fun character to develop. I use a variety of personality worksheets when creating characters, this helps to make them three dimensional.

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I recently turned in the fourth book of my series set in the fiction town of Bristle Township that follows the loves and lives of the sheriff department and the Delaney family. In this book, Ian Delaney has lost his memory and has no clue why someone wants him dead. Hired bodyguard, Simone Walker’s job is to keep Ian safe, but the man insists on discovering the truth and it may get them both killed. This book will be out in early 2022.

Q: Where do you escape for some quiet time?
A. I love to escape to the beach and walk along the shore. There’s something so peaceful about the sea air, the sound of the ocean rushing up the sand and the horizon stretching out forever.

Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t writing?
A. I would probably be teaching in a pre-school. I love working with young children.

Q: What one thing have you always wanted to do but couldn’t afford to do?
A. I would buy a yacht with a crew and sail around the world. Only problem is I get seasick, so I guess I’d be miserable. LOL

Q: I’m an avid gardener and have to ask what kind of flower you would be and why?
A. I love to garden as well. I would be a rose because they are pretty, smell nice but yet are prickly. I’ve been told I’m prickly on more than one occasion in my life. LOL
